Baby It's Cold...

The seasons have changed in the Maritimes. Fall is rolling in and winter won't be far behind. I was at work today, and this cut was on my mind. So I came home, after my 12 hour shift, and made this card:

This cute little beaver is from Winter Frolic, and is my first cut from that cartridge. I cut him at 2.5 inches. The stamp is from Close to My Heart. The card stock is mostly Stampin Up and the patterned paper is from My Mind's Eye. Although it doesn't look exactly how it did in my head, I think it's still cute :)

Here are the challenges I am submitting this card for:
Raise the Bar - bundle up
CES Challenges - animal antics
Paper Pretties - animals or animal print
My Sheri Crafts - masculine card - my beaver is a boy, the colors are fairly masculine and there is no bling or ribbon- My husband agreed this would be an OK card for a man.
Splitcoast Stamper - sketch 300

No Camera!

OMG! I left my camera at my daughters last week.
How does one blog with out one?
I am missing posting to the Little Red Wagon card challenges, baked some apples but no pictures, pink Japanese anemone are flowering in the garden...
Grrr....
So poor readers decided a "Stream of consciousness" is what I will do ....good or bad whatever pops into my head ...So thanks to my senior moment chatty notes it will be.
I have been busy between planting some new bulbs in the garden . Found samples pics on the Internet. Scilla and windflowers, was at a Red Hat meeting where we made cards; sort of a busman's holiday as the demonstrator is my teacher from my Monday cardmaking class. Still it was fun, made 2 cards, a bookmark and a purse shaped candy holder for a Christmas table (pictures certainly would have been nice),then the Garden Club tour last Wednesday went to South Coast Gardens. Where I wooed and ah'ed over the magnolias, rhodos , azaleas, palms this gentleman grows very happily outdoors in his garden. Certainly pushing the zone.
That was last week.
This week not so busy. Doing mundane things like cleaning windows and cupboards. Dressing the house for autumn . Yes I would have some nice photos of the decor; if I had a camera.......

Relaxing

This is totally me these days....lol

When I'm sitting here at the hotel each evening I'm either on my personal laptop or my work one. It keeps me busy and my mind off of how much I am missing my family.

Tomorrow they'll be here to visit for the weekend and I'm super excited! Keep your fingers crossed for good weather. It'd be nice to do the zoo or something outdoors.

This stamp is from the Who's That E-Girl from MFT. She's one of my newest MFT stamps! I drew in the floor and paper pieced the sofa.
Thanks for stopping by today! Have a GREAT day!

Bugs 'n' Hisses

It's Wednesday - and that means that it's Challenge day over at Cricut Cardz Challenges. It is team #1's week, but I couldn't resist participating - it is a Hallowe'en challenge after all and I just got Mini Monsters and some VERY cute stamps. Here is today's card:

I had never made a Z-fold card before, so I followed THIS tutorial of Mary's over at You Tube. It was easy-peasy! The witch and broom were cut at 2.8 inches and 2.5 inches respectively from my Gypsy. The paper is a mix of Stampin Up and Bazzil, and the patterned paper is Karen Foster from a couple of years ago. I bought the Stampendous stamp at a cute stamp store in town last week. I just thought the sentiment was perfect!! The buttons are from Basic Grey. I "confessed" to Janis today over at Pause Dream Enjoy that I had never used a button before, except on actual clothing. So I went to my LSS this afternoon, and bought some buttons. They add a cute touch.

Challenges I am submitting this card for:
Cricut Cardz Challenges - Halloween Z Fold
Gingerloft - halloween
Stamp, Scrap and Doodle - stitching
Fantabulous Cricut - stitching
Stamps R Us - halloween

Hope you are all having a wonderful day :)

Creepy Crawly Critter

My auto post worked yesterday! It is always nice when something electronic works for me :) Today's post is a quick one. I am working evenings tonight and then am on call, so have next to no time. Here is today's card:

Isn't it cute?? This was a truly simple card to make. It was made with Mini Monsters, and I used the card feature with the spider. Cut her at 3.7 inches, so she would fit in a legal size envelope. The layers fit perfectly. the only thing that didn't cut out were the blacks of her eyes, so I used a hole punch. Isn't she adorable?

Challenges for today:

Paper Cutz Challenge - critter cut (a spider may be a bit of a stretch for a critter...)
S2G - spooky critter

Hope you are all having a great day!

An apple a day...

Today is the first day that I am trying auto-posting. We'll see how it works :) I made this as a gift for my son's teacher. I was hoping to get it ready for the first of the year, but it didn't happen. So I gave it to her for "Meet the Teacher Night". I totally stole this idea from Ruthie and I love it! His teacher loved it too. Here it is:

The apple is from Preserves, and the sentiment is computer generated. The instructions for the sentiment came from THIS tutorial - as did the embossing instructions. I love my Martha Stewart score board - the embossing would have been a challenge without it! The card box is one that Momo makes, here are her instructions HERE The paper is mostly from Stampin Up. The only thing I wish I had done differently is to make the belly band in a different color - like a creamy vanilla color. That way you could see the stem on the apple. All in all, I think it's really cute!

Here are the challenges I am submitting this card set for:

365 Challenges - sweet smellin'
Charisma Cardz - everything goes
The Treehouse - teacher gifts
Craft Your Passion - CAS
Scrap and Stamp - embossing
Stamp Insanity - embossing
Craftalicious Challenges - harvest/ fall

If this worked today, I will be doing the same thing tomorrow. Hope you all have a good one :)

Chillin'

It's time for me to get into the swing of making holiday cards on a more regular basis. While packing away more stamping goodies yesterday I found this cutie from Stamping Bella.

She was coloured with Copics and a little bit of Stardust Stickles were added to the snowballs.

I also discovered a couple rhinestone swirls in the basket so I threw them on the card too!

The sentiment comes from Baby, it's Cold Outside by MFT.

Stamps: MFT, Stamping Bella; Cardstock: Red, White, Cosmo Cricket dp; Inks: Memento black; Accessories: Copics, Oval Nesties, Rhinestones, Dimensionals, Stickles

Thanks for stopping by!

Falling for fall

Fall is my favorite season of the year. Here is Nova Scotia it tends to be beautiful. Sunny, cool, clear and crisp, and the leaves can just be extraordinary! We spend lots of time as a family before the snow flies - going for walks, bike riding and going away for Thanksgiving. I love the smells, and the sights. With this in mind, I made this card:

The tree and leaves are from Sweethearts, which I just bought last week, after eyeing it for a while. There is a heart on the tree trunk, but I didn't want it, so I used the hide contour feature on my Gypsy to hide it. The stamp is from Stampendous - I ADORE that quote. I had to mask a few leaves and acorns that were above and below the quote, I didn't want them there. The paper is from my scrap boxes, and the ribbon is from Michael's. I am really happy with how this turned out - almost the same way as it looked in my head :)

The challenges I am submitting this card for:

Paper Playtime - autumn
Crafting with Christina Companion Challenge - red, yellow and orange and have leaves
Creative Craft World - autumn colors
Sarah Hurley Challenges - autumn
Everybody Art - autumn
A Crafty Little Place - include brown, green and orange
Creative Card Crew - fall
Craft Your Days Away - autumn doodles
Stamp It Crazy - free for all
Stamptacular Sunday Challenge - season change

I am going to try something different this week. I am actually going to try to do automatic postings for Monday and Tuesday. I have to work 12 hour evenings those days, and won't have time to post otherwise, so we'll see how it goes. After all, I am not overly technical :)

Fall TV Season, my take!

Fall Tv season has started. Made a concentrated effort to try a few of the new shows and of course had to welcome back some old favourites.
Will give you my senior take , and hopefully hear from you what you liked and what you will pass on.
Hellcats - good writing not as juvenile as expected. Will it become another Glee ?Don't think so.Glee tried many times and unless a special star is on don't watch on a regular basis.
Parenthood- checked it out, won't be back just can't relate anymore.
Any Vampire show- passed on.Read some of Ann Rice books but not a genre I buy into.
Survivor- more of the same old, same old even the challenges seen before. Will check in from time to time to see how the geezers do.
Outlaw- Love Jimmie Smits , don't think it will last tho, needs to develop .
The Apprentice- again more of the same old , tired of nasty behavior which I don't want to see ,I really want the celebs back, see more of the D's kids and less of the Donald.
Boardwalk Empire-good period piece.
Dancing with the Stars- admit I am a sucker for this show. Love dancing.
House- fantastic, great season opener.
Two and a half Men- can't stand Charley Sheen, so pass on this show , can't believe the money this guy makes .
LoneStar -passed on it , could not fit it in with all other shows winning over viewing it. Why do networks overload one night?
The Event- needed something to fill the void of Lost, not sure this one is it, slow made no sense. But will watch a couple more times.
Castle- Good show.
Hawaii 5-0 - thank goodness NBC is repeating some shows on Saturday night, I did like it .
Chase- another cop show but love the female lead and the actors from Prison Break that are on this show. Also caught it Sat. night.
NCIS's- Excellent - both shows.
Undercovers- Blah! This one can be yanked asap! Thought the acting was so bad , forced. Won't watch this again.
Criminal Minds- Quality show ; the season opener so scary. Tim Curry was superb as the evil character. Music in this show excellent too.
Csi's- Love these shows, all 3 ; in particular Sela Ward in NY very good.
Fringe- Sci Fi what can I say , the best.
Bones- usually enjoy this show but the season opener just did not capture me , will keep watching tho.
The Mentalist- felt the same as with Bones just not a great opener. Maybe I am overdoing it on cop shows.
Blue Bloods- was looking forward to seeing Tom Selleck again and like Mark Wahlberg. Show is okay needs time to develop, wonder if it will get it.
Big Bang Theory- Just started to watch and love the quirkiness of this comedy.
#@% ny father says- how can one not like William Shatner , Trekkie that I am, will this show make it? Don't know.
Comedy's- in general find I try them ,but don't become a fan; finding them too young .Do enjoy Hot in Cleveland with Betty White. I am just not hip enough. Dating myself...
30 Rock and Mad Men - tried, could not get into.
A@E's- The Glades turned into a favourite over the summer, very good show, well written.
Looking forward to Amazing Race , Dexter , Brothers and Sister and Battle of the Blades tonight. Could not believe AR lost an award to Top Chef , like Top Chef but to me AR is a quality show, great for families, educational. I watch TC off season.
Desperate Housewives I catch off season.
For those who are not Canadian, Battle of the Blades is a CBC show pairing hockey players with figure skaters performing ice routines , this is the second season. A true Canadian show and well watched here.
2 shows yet to premiere Lie to Me and Human Target, both I like.
Having reread this I see my love of mysteries come thru. Perhaps I should expand with a few more comedies. Any recommendations? What do you like?
Or, perhaps I should do more than watch TV?
Nah, Winter is coming have to do something on cold Canadian nights.

Thinking of You SFYTT

Well I'm home and it's great to be with my family!

Being away for two weeks has been crazy but soon we'll all be moving and my commuting will be cut down. Whew!

Chloe headed out to play with her friends, Brian was packing up his computer room which meant nobody would mind if I stamped ;)

I had laundry to do so it was perfect timing. I took a look at what Jen had for her SFYTT this week and it was a good one....as always!

I used some pretty My Mind's Eye DP along with the Verve set called Kind Words.

Thanks for looking!

Just Because

Well today after work I am heading back to Edmonton for the weekend! I'm excited to see my family. Poor Snickers has been missing me like crazy. I miss her following me everywhere...lol

This is one of the last cards I made to share with you while I've been away. I do hope that I'll find a little stamping time this weekend :)

Solid stamping is something I don't often do anymore. This Verve set called Great Friend has both solid and outline images.

Once again I have used some of the pretty Pixie-Licious designer paper from Cosmo Cricket.

Thanks for stopping by!

Fantabulous Cricut Challenge #28 - Harvest Time

I have wanted to make a "You're Rad" card from the moment I opened up this paper pack from DCWV. It's the Farmer's Market stack with perfect harvest papers.

All the cuts on this card are from the Just Because Cards cartridge but none are from the radish card button other than the radish and sentiment. I used my Gypsy to weld the radish onto the card so the card would open from the right and then the left. Is this a called a gate card?

Everything is inked and I used jute as a ribbon and pop dotted the words.

Birthdays Are The Best

Karen had a wonderful Sweet Sunday Sketch#85 on her blog and there was a little bonus involved. You were to make it a birthday card that you could send off to the soldiers.

I pulled out some pretty PTI stamps and the coordinating PTI flower die. Finished the flowers off with a few PTI Lemon Tart buttons and thread.

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Bird-day

My second post of the day! Isn't it amazing? I have been seriously slacking on my challenges lately, which I just LOVE to do, so with that in mind, I made a card that works for quite a few today. It was an easy card to make, and is an easel card... again, I know, but it fulfilled a challenge requirement :) Here it is.

So this little cutie is from Create a Critter - one of my faves. The scalloped circle and circle were both from Winter Wonderland. The sentiment - which I thought was PERFECT for this card is from Stampin Up, I can honestly say I have never used it before, and I have had it for 5 or 6 years. I am certainly going to be using it now :) I used Cuttlebug's Spots and Dots embossing folder, which I thought worked nicely with the pink patterned paper. The paper is a lot of Stampin Up, but a bunch of stuff from my scrap box too. I used 2 different stickles to bling her up - which were still wet when I took the picture - and another one of those sparkly brads from Close to my Heart. I think it is cute!

Challenges I am submitting this card for:

Cute Card Thursday - tweet and flutter
Pixie Dust - fur or feathers
S2G - birthday card with a critter
Polka Doodles - easel card
Aly's Sunday Sketch Challenge - sparkle and glitter
The Crafty Pad - embossing (dry or heat - I chose dry)
Papertake - animal magic
Little Red Wagon - glitter
Flutterby Wednesdays - anything with wings
The Sweetest Thing - sweet sunday sketch challnge #86

In other exciting news: Winter Frolic, Mini Monsters AND Sweethearts are now in da house!!! I am so excited. I got GREAT deals on all of them. I hope to play with them before Friday, when I go back to work.

Autumn Arrives at 11:09 PM.

My favourite season is arriving tonight. The bright leaf colours, warm days, cool crisp nights,Soups, casseroles and apples baking.... bringing out warm afghans , decorating with pumpkins , scarecrows and gourds. Halloween.

Never mind that it is grey and raining here today nor what comes after this gorgeous season.

Cricut Cardz Challenge #43

Welcome to my blog! This is my submission as part of Team #2 for Cricut Cardz Challenge this week. The challenge was to make a baby card using only white, yellow, orange and green. Here is what I came up with:

I know you will be shocked that I made yet another easel card :) I love those. The cartirudges I used were Lyricla Letters for the stork, and Gypsy Wanderings for the "sweet baby" and the marquis like symbol that the stork is sitiing on. I ran the whole back piece through my Cuttlebug, using my new spotted folder. The paper is mostly Stampin Up, though some is from my scrap box. The stamp is from Stampin Up as well.

I think I may have cheated a bit on this challenge - I did use black ink and a black pen for doodling. Hope that isn't serious cheating... On the whole I am pretty pleased with how this turned out. I hope you join us over at Cricut Cardz Challenges to participate in this challenge! I can't wait to see what you all come up with :)

Hi, it's Me.... MFTWSC092210

This week the MFT Stamp Club Challenge team are making scenes!

Create a scene with your stamps and Die-namics, or use a stamp that shows a scene. Remember you do not need to use MFT images to participate but if you have 'em why not use 'em ;)

When you upload to SCS please use keyword MFTWSC092210 so we can find your creations.

I chose to use the adorable PI girl called Flower Girl along with some fun die-namics and felt! The sun and grass were made with felt from the Banana Split Collection and the Beautiful Garden Collection. The scallops were made using the Jumbo Scallop Die.

I hope you'll head over to Kim's blog at 11 am EST(Wednesday) for a complete list of participating designers for today's Wednesday Stamp Club.
Thanks for stopping by!

You're Invited...

This is a quick card I made up as a sample. I am making up a bunch of invitations for a family member, and this is one of the options. I want to make sure it is easy enough, and quick enough that I could make quite a few.

The paper is all Stampin Up, and so is the stamp, it is from a set called Close as a Memory, and is one of my favorites. The Cuttlebug folder I used is called Victoria. I love how classy it is. the ribbon is from the Dollar Store.

I hope you will join me tomorrow to see what I came up with for the new Cricut Cardz Challenge. It's a good one :)

A winner and an apology

I am so sorry for not posting this earlier this evening. My 12 hour shift, turned into an 18 hour shift - oh the joys of a nursing shortage and the lure of overtime :) Anyway, it is now 1 AM in my neck of the woods, and I am EXHAUSTED!! I put all 167 comment into Random.org and tried to figure out how to move over the little box so everyone could see it, but it didn't work and I need to go to bed. That being said, the winner was #14 Tanya - of Scrappin KY Momma!!

Tanya said...
Too cute!!! Love the HK.. the banner is also adorable!!! Gotta try these. Thanks for sharing. :) I'm also a FOLLOWER now :)

Thanks Tanya, and congrats for winning the stamp set! If you could email me with your mailing address, I will get the stamp set to you ASAP.

Thanks again for all the comments, and I really hoped you enjoyed our HOP. Keep your eyes peeled, we just may be doing another one in a few months ;)

I'll try to get a new card up tomorrow, until then, I am off to bed.

You Make My World Happy

I made this for last Sunday's Featured Stamper Challenge. Terri had a wonderful card here that I cased.

Loved the little window and thought the cute little PI girl would be perfect for it!

Sorry for the bad lighting. I was rushing to get things photographed and pre-loaded to my blog. I didn't realize it looked so bad until now....lol Frankly, time is not on my side right now and I have no energy to run down to re-do ;)

Hockey Birthday

What an amazing weekend for my little blog. My very first Blog Hop, and all sorts of new followers. I was so thrilled to take part, and now can`t wait for the next one :) I will post the winner of Lots of Pun tomorrow. I have to work a twelve hour day tomorrow, and will probably not get a chance to post the winner till tomorrow evening.

Here are todays cards. About 3 months ago, my nephew had a birthday. I asked him what he wanted me to make for his card. He chose a hockey card - Sidney Crosby if at all possible... he grew up about 20 minutes from where I live - most kids in Nova Scotia are Sidney Crosby fans, no matter what hockey team they cheer for :) This is what I came up with:

So I made this card on my Gypsy, welding the "birthday" to the card base. The font is from Robotz, and the base from George and Basic Shapes. The Hockey Player is from Every Day Paper Dolls, and the number 87 is from Alphalicious. Super cute, isn't it?

So fast forward a couple of months. One of Andrew's friends has a party, and Andrew wants to give him a Montreal Canadiens card. Enter my wonderful Gypsy. I pulled up my old hockey card, that I had saved. I created a Canadiens emblem out of Cutting Up, cut it out of appropriate colors, and VOILA!! A brand new card for a different little boy. Here it is:

Easy peasey!! Those of you who are observent, will see that I gained some adorable Peachy Keen Stamps between the 2 cards.

Challenges I am entering these cards into:
Always Crafting - birthday card
Other Lovelies - letter C (cardstock and Canadiens)
Secret Crafter - anything goes
One Stitch at a Time - birthday

Hope you are having a fabulous weekend, come back tomorrow to see if you won my giveaway from the blog hop yesterday :)

Being Cute

I think this is one of my most favourite cards eva! Funny thing is that the cards I like are usually the ones others don't...lol

I had book marked a card by Karen HERE last month and have been wanting to try the clouds and hill idea.

I'm running out of time so I better go. I have more blog posts to get written up so you have more to see while I'm away.

Stamps: Being Cute Is What I Do; Cardstock: Kraft, Aqua Mist, White, My Mind's Eye DP; Inks: Memento Black; Accessories: Copics, PTI cloud die, MFT felt, Sewing Machine, Dimensionals

Thanks for stopping by today!

Monster Mash

These are just the plain cuts from Mini Monsters all I did was add googly eyes.

I love the card feature on the Mini Monsters cartridge! My friend and I spent an afternoon making Halloween cards. I love the unconventional card openings (and I just love shape cards in general).

Cricut train

Look what I got in the mail! It's an envelope full of Cricut cuts. I chose three and replaced those and then mailed the envelope to the next name on the list. This is my first swap. I should be getting the next envelope of cuts in a few weeks.
