Happy CANADA Day

We are so blessed to call ourselves Canadians!
This truly is the best nation in the world.

Happy Canada Day!

Sweet Peas

The  first of the sweet peas are flowering. Sreamers is the name  of this variety..   Blossoms are streaked with white  and come in mauve,chocolate,orange , blue , pink ,purple and red......so far only the mauve but there is a bud that looks like deep red.... This sweet pea is considered a trailer but it is climbing my trellis with only a little help from twine...

Made a little arrangement to sit by my bedside. Added white astilbe and some of the astilbe leaves.

The fragrance is   filling   the room.......so strongly scented.
I was so worried about planting too early   I can see  by all the  buds  it was the right time.

Get Your Bootie Outside!

It’s estimated we spend over 90% of our time indoors and with each generation, we seem to spend less and less time outside. Canadians need sunlight, everyone does! It allows the body to absorb vitamin D, which is great for bones by maintaining your calcium balance, and boosts your immune system, aids in cell differentiation, helps to regulate blood pressure, and plays a role in insulin secretion. Vitamin D helps prevent cancer and depression too.

On top of natural sunlight, reconnecting with the outdoors does a world of good to our emotional health and wellbeing. Plants and trees are natural air filters. Just being in a green area or a forest creates a significant reduction on stress levels while increasing your oxygen levels.

If you’re used to exercising in a gym, try going outside instead. You will likely experience far less ankle, foot, and knee injuries. Doing physical activity outside increases energy and decreases stress levels. It heightens mental awareness and can speed the recovery time after medical procedures.

So go enjoy some peace and quiet, and  gorgeous scenery, like these scenes of Muskoka in the summer.

Magnum Ice Cream Bars

We've all seen the advertisements   touting these   decadent ice cream bars.....  Magnum is an ice cream brand owned by the British/Dutch Unilever company.Well loved world wide. Just brought to Canada recently.
Big with the Trumps.
I had a coupon , buy one get one free ....
At 6.99 each for only 3 bars  rather pricey. size of each bar  approximately 3 oz. each.
Decided  not too bad using the coupon.  Tried  2 flavours  , classic and dark.
The Belgian chocolate  coating was  very good   ....The ice cream vanilla bean   flecked part was just  okay.
I did enjoy them but  for price  do not think I will purchase them again.
Will stick to my Chapman's Fudgesticks.

Have a BBQ!

It's Wednesday!! That means it's challenge day over at Cricut Cardz Challenge. Today Mary challenged us to come up with a Cook out or Picnic themed card. One of my favorite things about summer is the BBQ, so I decided to make a card to invite some friends over to a BBQ! Here it is:

Isn't it adorable?? I love how this card turned out. I used Simply charmed to cut the hamburger and hotdog. I cut the burger at 2.5 inches and the hotdog at 2 inches. The cutie face stamps are from Peachy Keen - love them!! The sentiment stamp, which I cut in half (gasp!!) so it would fit on the page, is from MFT. The paper is all Stampin Up, the ribbon is form Michales and I used my black and white Gel pens for all the stitching.

I hope you all hop over to CCC and play along with us :)

Some challenges:

Brief Intro to Homeopathy

Homeopathy is an alternative and allopathic approach to healing; as opposed to Western medicine.  It originated in Germany in the 1750's by a physican that claimed medicine being prescribed back then did as much harm as it did good!

A remedy is selected based on the totality of the symptoms. It is believed that using high concentrates of diluted herb, and treating like illnesses with like remedies, aids to relieve symptoms.
Homeopathy interprets sickness and disease being caused by disturbances in the ‘life force’, where these disturbances present themselves as symptoms.

Today homeopathic remedies are available at your local health food store & stores like Shoppers Drug Mart. One of the most popular with supposed great success is Oscillum for colds & flu.

Hopefully back...

Well here I am! finally back online. We have had 2 week with no internet - that was fun - and my life has been chaotic at best. Although I have managed to get my design team responsiblities fulfilled, I have NOT been a good blogger! But I'm back.

Today's card - which was supposed to be posted yesterday - is Paper Playtime's Challenge for the next 2 weeks. The challenge is to use your country's colors (in my case Red and White) and a digi on a card:

The digi is from Praire Fairy and the paper is SU and CTMH.

Tomorrow I will be back with my Cricut Cardz Challenge post, and some info about a Canada Day blog hop I am taking part in. Happy to be back :)

Red, white and blue

I am loving all of the Fourth of July projects people are posting this week! This is my take on red, white and blue.

Do you remember these Rocket Popsicles? They were my favourite from the Dickie Dee ice cream cart.

To make my popsicle, I used the popsicle cut from Just Because cards and welded a rounded rectangle on the top. I cut this three times to make the three colours. Once I glued them together, I embossed the grooves. I then smothered it with Glossy Accents. The stick is a real popsicle stick, I had to pop dot it so it would be flat on top of the stick.

I am entering this card at :

1. Fantabulous Cricut - Red, White and Blue challenge

2. Celebrate the Occasion - 4th of July - Red, White and Blue

3. Scrapbookaholic Abby - Red, White and Blue

4. Craft Us Crazy - Summer or Red, White and Blue

Test Kitch ~ Mini Quiche

First of all these are totally yummy!  You have to try them.
Secondly, I suck at spelling.  Really.  Why do I keep picking recipes that I can't spell?
Keeesh.  No?
Mini Q's then.

I started with a few basic ingredients and created two different options.
Onion, eggs, milk, cheese, sausage, mushrooms, spinach and tart shells.

Here's the Cheesy Spinach version:
{makes 30 Mini Q's}
5 Tbsp frozen spinach {defrosted}
1/2 cup of cheddar cheese {shredded}
1/4 of a medium onion, diced{sauted}
6 eggs
1/4 cup of milk
Pinch of salt and pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Bake tart shells for 10 minutes.  Remove shells from oven and fill with egg mixture.  Bake again for 25-30 minutes.

Mix together onion, spinach and cheese.
Meanwhile bake empty tart shells.

Add eggs, milk, salt and pepper.
Whisk vigorously.

Fill tarts right to the top with egg mixture and bake.

Yummers!

And now for the Sausage Mushroom version:
 {makes 30 Mini Q's}
1/4 medium onion, diced {sauted}
6 mushrooms, diced {sauted}
1 sausage, cooked and broken into pieces
6 eggs
1/4 cup milk
Pinch of salt and pepper.

Bake empty tart shells at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.  Remove from the oven and fill with egg mixture.  Bake for 25-30 minutes.

Saute onion, mushrooms and sausage.  Allow to cool.  Bake empty tart shells.

Add egg, milk, salt and pepper to the sauted mixture and whisk well.

Fill tart shells with the egg mixture and bake.

Honestly, I don't know which one I like better.

Isaiah, eating just the edge of the tart shell around the egg.  He's not particular.  LOL

Enjoy!

Linking to these fab parties!!
