How much time does it take to switch between OS's when using Parallels?
You're switching to an open window running Windows. It's instant.

It's really about the same as a Remote Desktop Connection window - the Parallels copy of Windows is running completely inside an OSX window. The Windows taskbar is at the bottom of the window, etc.

This is almost Microsoft-like: at what point does the public simply become so sick of badly written software from an arrogant company that historically captured a large market share and is now doing everything possible to stifle innovation that it simply moves on?

I'd be fine with waiting till fall to upgrade my 3GS if it meant LTE. Yes, I know the tech is nascent but the timing would seriously suck for entering a 2 year contract on a phone without it. That's the main problem. I don't want to have to wait till 2013 or upgrade after just one year (and there's no guarantee either carrier would allow it).

    B. I can be bothered.

Oh and i'm well over 18, have a very high IQ and a masters degree. :) That doesn't make me any more likely to be right or wrong than you, i'm just saying, seeing as you made some delightful comments about 13 and under 18 year olds in your aforementioned post.

If you guys don't mind Apple being behind in hardware, then, quite honestly, stop whining about it.

So many Mac users spend hours a day, talking about Apple and what they're doing wrong, but never take any action. If those who care about Apple being the slowest computers on the market are not going to do something about it, then they should shut up about it.

If you're going to whine about it constantly and then get upset with someone who says it's not good enough, then you're just a stupid hypocrit. I realize that you're happy with the productivity your Mac(s) has brought you, and are incredibly loyal to Apple, as well you should be, but if you're going to complain about it, then at least make some attempt to do something about it. or shut up about it.

    Just a quickie:
I'm not whining about anything. I think of Macs as entry level workstations (not as desktops), and as such, I find them cheap, reliable, and speedy.

I'd like more speed (as I do tax my machine), but I'm not known to whine about anything. If you'll notice, my post is very point/counterpoint, and primarily designed to dispel some of the myths proffered from either side of the fence. If you read it carefully, I think you'll see that I'm neither a hypocrite, nor stupid. My spelling and grammar are strong. My arguments and points are logical, and put forth based on data, published and empirical.

Note I was quick to agree that Macs are not the fastest machines...

Secondly, Macs are not the slowest machines on the market. For processing only arguments, the Mac line sits squarely between the top and bottom end Windows machines. For reliability (uptime, TCO), the Mac sits between more mature UNIX distros, and Windows.

As for age, there are a lot of people here in the 12-20 demographic, who agrue with zeal, but without fact. Oddly, it is this demographic which are most likely to buy neon case lights, watercoolers, billet milled aircraft aluminum cases, etc.

No need to take the vertical demographics as an insult!

Furthermore, what action do you propose we comsumers take to speed Apple development?

I would wager that no active posters have high level chip design on their resumes. I would further speculate that few really understand the in-and-outs of a complex gate setup, so I doubt we're going to design it for them.

Should we boycott Apple products? This drains R&D capital from Apple, and forces people to use Windows, certainly not an elegant soultion.

I am open to any suggestion you have as to how I can speed the delivery of a G5 or Power4 Lite.

Lastly, I'm a happy Apple customer, but my loyalty is available. If you can create a better matrix of performance/stability/standards based computing/availabilty of apps/cost/TCO/OS elegance I'm a customer.

No-glasses 3D on a screen that large could be very impressive. Would be a strong reason to get movies just for the iPad. Of course, only one person can look at it at a time and you'd have to be in the sweet spot.

I'd rather have retina display if a choice had to be made.

I'd also imagine it in the iPhone/Touch first, anyway, with 3D pictures and video. Could be a strong selling point.

The point about smudges on a touch screen is valid. Also, your hand interupting the plane would be distracting, but that could be handled by keeping most of the 3D going into the screen, not coming out (like most 3DS games).

P.S. If you can't see the 3D on a Nintendo 3DS with the slider turned on, you were either far from the sweet spot and didn't try to look at it for more than 1-2 seconds, or you simply can't see 3-dimensions in everyday life either. There are some who can't. I find the effect to be very cool, I just don't enjoy playing with cramped hands on tiny buttons with an unforgiving viewing angle and low resolution screens... painful too because I LOVE the Nintendo franchises -- wait what forum is this?

If I go to the Australian Apple Store the delivery time for a Black MacBook is 3-5 days.

If I go to configure and upgrade it to 1Gb RAM the delivery time falls to 2-4 days!!!

Explain that to me all you rumo(u)r experts:confused:

    +1 to you.

The iMac and the Mini have been upgraded, does that mean that the MacBook and MBP will follow suit before 12th September, ready for whatever announcement comes then?

i reckon, if they changed all of the core duos to core 2 duos in one go apple would not be able to handle all of the extra orders, so they spread it out a little.

No more PowerBook. Love the new Mac Mini, I would put in an SSD, but they're still too expensive, and I really don't need one. Its extremely quiet anyway.

Stock Mac Mini 2.4ghz + 4gb of RAM (Crucial off Newegg)
20" Cinema Display (I'm going to mount that powerbrick behind the desk, I hate looking at it)
    Bose Companion 2 speakers
    64gb iPad WiFi
    160gb iPod Classic

Who cares about Flash? Most of the time it's used, it's because the web designers are too dumb or lazy to get the page right without it, because they haven't kept out with what a modern browser is capable of.

Hey I hate Flash more than most but in this case Adobe has a clear case of doing the right thing...

Imagine just for a moment you were in charge of Flash at Adobe.... Okay, STOP! before you erase its entire existance off the Adobe corp. servers (and back ups) lol -- take a second and check your email and what's that you find? X hundred? x thousand?? people all crying to you why Flash doesn't work on the iPhone... If I were the man in charge I'd say enough of this crap ... we have an iPhone ready (aka SUPER CRAPTASTC!) version of Flash all packed up and ready to explode err... ready to go and Apple cuts us off?!?!? well &*#&$*( them! I'm not fielding any more nasty grams from people ask ME why its not on their stupid little crappy iPhone ... Lets tell em exactly WHY it's not and be done with the entire mess.

Now that was me being an Adobe guy... I actually have a great fondness for my iPhone and a mild hate over the controls Apple has imposed over App store approvals. I'm also a "hey what is this FLASH?! that you speak of?!?!" and why would I ever care to have it on my machine... I've got this flash blocker and cept for certian video sites I get by just fine without seeing crappy flash presentations that are pretending to be Web pages...

Sorry flashers. Flash is not the web no matter how much you beat the drum that it is. It's an abomination not unlike Microsofts Active X. So drop the flash-pipe, spark up a doob and read some Perl Camel books and once you've got a good head on then get some cookies and move over to some Ruby on Rails books or perhaps PHP. Get to know the 'real web'. :D

something tells me you are not going to be able to back up 64gb (potentially 128gb) of data to the cloud free of charge.initial backup over wifi (required) then future incremental (smaller) backups could be over 3G. the iPhone already tells you when an app is to large to update w/o wifi - it's already been training us about what we can and can't do w/o wifi.

    What's illogical about it?

Why should we subsidize the defense industry, a multi-multi-billion dollar expense to our government, merely to maintain some jobs?

Please show me the evidence that demonstrates that is a positive investment for our country.

show me, show me? ... if you can not see the value for the economy in the people that work in and around the Military ... from Mom and Pop stores to direct suppliers to the Military? ... and your solution is ...

I'd suggest that those who's careers are based on maintaining our military can file for unemployment and search the want ads just like everybody else.

like I said ... good thing you are not part of the decision process.

La-dee-frickin'-da. I still have an iPhone 3G, and I'm not eligible for an upgrade until the end of April. So, as I see it, here are my options:

    1) Upgrade in April to tech that's already a year old.
    2) Hold on to a phone that is slower than cold molasses for another 6-8 mos., with the POSSIBILITY of a new, faster, and better phone.

    3) Move to Android (perhaps the Motorola Atrix) and send the iPhone, Apple, and their seemingly academic product refresh cycles packing.

I have been, in my past, an Apple apologist; I own both a Macbook and an iPad, and love them both. They have the right to release their products when they want. But for some reason, Apple's decision to mix-up their refreshment cycles NOW burns me. I have been looking forward--for once--to upgrading my device at around the time the newest iPhone hits the market, and when I finally get the chance to do it, Apple (potentially) shifts the cycle. Not cool with me.

So, even though I love iOs, I may jump to Android for a couple of years, just to check it out.

Do Configure-To-Order Macs ship from overseas, or from within the United States? Or does it depend on what it chosen as one's configuration?

After using our ipad-2 since the 17th, we are pretty sure we are going to return it and get an Airbook 11" to go with our pro machines at home. We just can't get anything like simple productive tasks done on it without some form of rain dance, hoop jump session. I cant even email a photo with a file name to a client to comp in a layout, pretty laughable actually.

Maybe in a few years when Apple figures out there are actually people out there who do more than game or waste time on Facebook....
