Yes, because as we all know, only things that happen in real life are interesting.

    Although:

    http://www.macrumors.com/2010/03/11/macbook-pro-update-due-for-launch-as-soon-as-tomorrow/

that rumor was made up by someone in this thread, posted on 9to5mac as gospel, added to MR front page, we laughed in this thread about it, then it was removed on 9to5, moved to page 2 on MR, original poster banned... so yea, they may be coming, but if it is then that story is just coincidence.

Happiness all around about the good news. I look at Microsoft and how they ****ed up lots of customers' Windows 7 phones by over-the-air updates. And since these guys at Microsoft are not nearly as stupid as people on MacRumors would like to believe, it seems that over the air updates just have a huge potential for ***ing up someone's iPhone or iPad as well. Starting with firmware updates that you really, really only should perform when connected to a strong and stable power source. I think Apple wouldn't want a million customers with bricked iPhones or iPads. And if Apple's engineers think they can pull this off without bricking any iPhone, then hopefully their manager asks them "so what makes you think you are smarter than the guys at Microsoft"? The Microsoft guys were quite sure they could do it, and they messed it up, twice.

Now we add that the size of an iOS update is quite big compared to most people's monthly 3G data allowance, and I think this is a pipe dream.

Unless it's an entirely new OS, like iOS 5 for example, it should be able to recognize what version your device is running and download only the essential features of the following update. Having to download the entire OS (which is over 600mb) every single time is a bit ridiculous.

Every time engineers are trying to be clever they run the risk of messing things up. Taking the old iOS, removing it completely, and installing a completely new, fresh iOS is safe and risk free. Trying to be clever and replace only the right things risks messing up things and leaving a very, very, very unhappy customer.

It works for soundtracks or compilations, It is used to organize the albums better. Its very handy.

For soundtracks and compilations I use "compilation" tag and they show up under "compilation" instead of their artists in the browser. "Album Artist" tag is supposed to be for albums that have songs that are 'performed' by multiple artists, not for albums that have songs from different artists. Compilations and Soundtracks fall into the latter.

I have this album called "Friday Night in San Francisco". It's a live concert by Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin, and Paco DeLucia. I used to have all the names in the artist tag, and it would show up as a separate artist "Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin, Paco DeLucia", which was annoying. Now, having this new tag, I thought it would solve this problem, and the album would show up under all the artists. That's the intuitive way I think. When you browse for an artist you want to see songs from that artist right? And the songs in this album are both form Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin, and Paco DeLucia. So they should appear under them all.

When I put the three names in the "Album Artist" tag, nothing has changed in the way browser works. If this tag is just a static storage for an extra string I call this Lame. I had so much expectations from it I guess.

While for me, $500 is a "pretty big wad of cash to throw down", there's more to it than strictly looking at the dollar figure. EG. Do you have a kid or kids that might benefit from being able to use the new iPad you're about to purchase? Do you have legitimate uses for it that go along with EARNING more money, or maybe even the ability to write the whole purchase off as a tax deduction the next year? When you spend $20 on some beer or a few bucks on some food, it's a consumable you use once and throw some trash away, and then you have nothing to show for it.

One thing I know about myself is, I'm very hesitant to spend much on "instant gratification" type of entertainment. I practically never spend money on tickets for sporting events or concerts, and maybe buy a movie ticket once a year. I've often skipped summer vacations completely because my employer didn't want me to take time off when they had important projects going on, and I just opted to get paid for the days instead. I don't even have cable or satellite TV at home, because I hated watching $60 or more per month just vanish into thin air, with nothing concrete to show for it later. So when I do spend my money? It tends to be on bigger-ticket items I know I'll get a lot of use out of for years down the road.

So frankly, in my relationships, "respect" is just as much about my partner respecting my ability to make sensible purchasing decisions and NOT demand I consult with her first, simply because it's something a lot more expensive than a fast food order.

The basis for any good relationship is communication. And I am not sure what kind of money you make, but $500 is a pretty big wad of cash to throw down and it should merit a conversation with your spouse. Its not like you threw down a $1 on a cheeseburger, or $2 on a scratch off, or heck $20 of beer. You spent $500, thats like a whole months utilities. Thats a car payment. Thats a few hours of tuition for your kid's college one day. Its no chump change.

And household income should be considered just that, household. It does not matter who makes more money, it should be community, and if you're spending $500 on an iPad, then you're lady should be able to spend $500 on a coach purse. How would you feel about that?

Non-necessities, expensive purchases should always be discussed. There is a need for open, honest communication in a marriage. If you don't have that, and you are running around buying ipads without consulting them, well unless you got a fad wad of cash, you likely wont stay married long.

Its about respect. If you don't respect your wife enough to discuss a $500 purchase with her, then you don't deserve to have the companionship of a female.

Most iPods are used in situations where our eyes aren't free to focus on a screen however good--commuting, jogging, biking or whatever. To compete with ebooks from Sony and others, this ebook iPod needs to be able to read text aloud as well as display it on screen.

It also needs to bookmark text and audio files well, so we can resume where we left off and shift between reading and listening without losing our place. And that means multiple bookmarks, not just a mark for the last place we were. (Marking text like a post-it note would also be a plus.)

In addition, iTunes needs to be able to download text books and newscasts (free and by subscription) as easily and automatically as it now does podcasts. Pushing content is always better than pulling it.

Those are things existing ebooks don't do. Add those features to an ebook iPod, and Apple will be miles ahead of the competition. Sony and (soon) Microsoft will be eating their dust.

Oh come on. How often do we actually have to access our optical drives? While you may do so often, many of us almost never do and would be happy to attach an external drive every now and then or even access the disc we need over the network.

The optical drive in my laptop broke a few months ago. I haven't missed it much. The one time I did need it, I hooked up my external drive, so it is necessary to have one.

a move to text based mediums would be great. It's easy to see that increases in technology should lead to increasingly technically difficult entertainment (hence ipod -> photo -> video), but it's not about the technology. It's about the entertainment of it and it's suitablility to the medium (ipod).

And in the hightech, fast paced world we live in, books, magazines, and newspapers are a welcome change and a fantastic form of entertainment, as they have been for centuries. Combining written text with the technology in the form of screens you want to read on all day long would be an excellent advance. It would be very cool if the ipod got wifi capabilities and you could download print media from ITMS and work RSS into the ipod too.

Imagine- wherever you go, the ipod finds internet access and updates itself automatically, and allows you to purchase books whenever you like. Fit the whole library in your pocket if you like.

The clincher is going to be the screen, though. Particularly because nothing is nicer than reading outside on a sunny day, but LCDs tend to suck at that. Also important would be wireless capabilities- could it use phone networks for internet access? Speeds wouldn't be a problem for text.

mmm, now if only all the rumors come together in one device without it becoming muddled or oversized, this could be spectacular.

Thanks! I was waiting for the sunset over the city last night and the clouds screwed me. So I stuck around in the cold and took some night shots. Here's another from the same bench that I didn't like as much.

No, agreed, the first one is much better. I like the emptiness contrasted with the big city sky. It gives it a nice, romantic and almost nostalgic feeling.

Here's one from my latest concert shoot, Streetlight Manifesto. I had forgotten how much fun ska punk was! These guys were all over the place. I got lucky with this shot and timed it just when someone else released their flash from a P&S.

    isn't that the way it's usually done ? ;)

Way back on this thread ZoomZoomZoom said:
Skip Vista and you'll probably be a decade behind at some point.

And this would be the single point that consumers should think about when upgrading Windows versions: exactly what is Vista adding to XP?
From what I can see there's the promise of security that MS has been renewing ever since 1995, there's the Aero theme and there's DRM.

As for the new look on MS Windows, I can't see it as a reason to upgrade. Right now I have a Ubuntu box configured with XGL-Compiz, all the transparency bits, windows wobbling and all that... on a Celeron with a GeForce MX440 card. My Powerbook has nice windows and the Expos effects run smoothly on its hardware from 2003 thank you very much.

Regarding DRM, I'll pass. Really. I'm not is the US, so why should I be getting an OS that has been built according to the requirements of the MPAA/RIAA? I'd rather get Ubuntu Linux and then add media plugins that suit what I need to do, and choose them correctly under the context of portuguese law.

So, I ask again, what am I geeting with a new box of Windows? the same security improvements MS has been promising for the last 10 years, or security features sold as extras by MS to try and get some revenue from fixing the problems their own software design couldn't prevent in the first place?

Doesn't matter where Apple sells its products. Better to make your products available everywhere than in just one or two specific stores. Remember: Not every city has an Apple store and can be quite a distance to the closest.
