Summer Festivals Around The World

Esala Perahera - Sri Lankan Festival of the Tooth is full of lavish costumes and elephants! It takes place in July and August in Kandy. It is a Buddhist festival full of various cultural dances.

Ramadan - 29 or 30 days of fasting between sunrise and sunset, sometimes with lavish feasts served afterwards. It is a Muslim tradition to teach about patience and humility. It is expected that you pray more than usual and it is believed to be held during the same month that the first verses of the Qu'ran were revealed to prophet Muhammad. (Eid al-Fitr is the last 3 days of Ramadan)

Raksha Bandhan - A celebration of brothers and sisters in India. It is observed by Hindus and Sikhs. Sisters tie a thread on their brothers wrist for love and well being and the brothers vow to be her protector.

Trung Tru - A Vietnamese summertime festival celebrating children. Think moon cakes! Some say the festival originated for parents to spend more time with their children during harvest season. It is similar in sight to our Halloween with a mix of our Thanksgiving.
